About

Phoebe Collings-James brings new sculpture and ceramic work to Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery in her first UK showing of these pieces. The exhibition presents over 17 works, including clay paintings, armour and mostly human-scale sculpture that fill the main galleries and Breakfast Room of Sir John Soane's former home. Drawing on cuneiform tablets, Ashanti folklore and sound design, the show features new Infidels sculptures made with Caribbean coiling techniques, elongated forms with open mouths, brass mouthpieces set in unfired clay, and small, dreamlike Clay Paintings that explore clay as a living, mutable material.

Inside Chiswick's take

Seeing boldly scaled ceramics installed in Sir John Soane's historic interiors makes for a rewarding local outing. The tactile surfaces and surprising forms offer something fresh for fans of contemporary sculpture, ceramics and design.
